Get unstuck! stop overthinking your next business move

I’d been overthinking my business “refresh” for longer than a year before I burned out and landed in the hospital yet again with heart issues this past February. In my head, I knew I was going down a dangerous path with an overload of client work, and my business joy had hit a new low (which eventually also affected my personal joy). I’ve been a VA business owner for over twenty-two years, so recognizing the signs that I was in trouble should’ve moved me to take immediate action to turn things around before they got worse.

It wasn’t that I didn’t have moments of calm in my business. I actually did, and those came in the form of coaching sessions with people eager to hear how they could get their own virtual assistant businesses started, or how they could implement new strategies that would help them grow their businesses. Those moments….ahhh…they made me feel good inside! Those moments confirmed for me that I wanted to implement even more coaching and mentoring into my business. Those moments offset what I was feeling in other areas of my business. In fact, I thought in those moments, maybe most of my business should be about helping others transition into this line of work.

But I didn’t act quickly enough on what was going on in my head. I jotted down notes, yes. Lots of notes. Pages and pages of ideas for content I could use to coach and mentor other VAs. But I didn’t make many moves forward because I was busy helping clients build their business dreams. I was helping them get their messages out into the world, but I wasn’t creating my own movement. I was in that place called stuck because my mind wasn’t clear enough to put enough thought into the ideas I’d jotted down for AskChela. And even when I did have those moments when I could give more thought to those ideas, I would fall into the trap of overthinking them, and I would eventually talk myself out of pursuing them at all.

Is that what’s going on with you right now? Are you stuck? Are you thinking, then re-thinking, then overthinking getting started in your own virtual assistant business, or in implementing new ideas you’ve jotted down for your business?

I don’t want you to stay in that place of stuck for too long. It’s an extremely frustrating, unproductive place to be, and it can eventually have a serious impact on one’s physical and mental health.

The whole point of this blog is to help you build a healthy business from the inside out. So here’s a Write It Out Worksheet that I hope will help you begin to identify why you may have a tendency to overthink things. Knowing the why can help you get unstuck–and into a zone of action. And when you are ready, let's have a brainstorming session and talk it through.

Let me know your thoughts. :-)
